Accomplishments

Here are a few of our accomplishments from the past Kiwanis year (2024 through Sept. 2025):

School Accomplishments in the Kiwanis Year Ending September 30, 2025

James Whitcomb Riley #43

  • Purchased tripod, microphone, and camera for recording student presentations and school performance
  • Purchased technology to fascilitate the transition to a visual performing arts school. to enable students to create digital projects
  • Enabled exploration of the ecosystem by purchasing supplies for STEM experiments and the proper technology for STEM research
  • Purchased materials to help 2nd and 3rd graderes understand insects. This included an iPad, ant farm, bug viewer, lady bugs, and study materials
  • Provided 1st graders with materials to create a dramatic play area so that their lessons come alive
  • Helped purchase a Mac laptop and iPad for use in improving students’ reading skills and comprehension and understanding of technology applications
  • Provided headphones to enable students to focus during independent reading time
  • Purchased photo printer and supplies for 3rd grade class
  • Helped purchase books to establish arts library

Phalen Academy #48

  • Purchased individual whiteboards, markers, and erasers for writing math problems. Also provided printer ink to enable printing of math work sheets
  • Provided headphones for each student to enable them to focus without distractions of conversations
  • Helped provide essential care items for stdents’ daily needs, to enable them to focus on the essential task of learning
  • Purchased a charging cart for storage of Chromebooks and keeping devices operational
  • Funded the purchase of a 32 charging station cart, rugs to be used in education, and classroom supplies
  • Purchased electronic supplies for 3rd grade classroom, including headphones, computer mice, and storage bags
  • Purchased materials for a classroom’s STEM projects

Eliza Blaker Butler Lab School #55

  • Funded the purchase of iPads for students to use to be able to share their work with their parents
  • Provided framing materials to permanently display students’ art pieces of bugs, created from found objects

William Bell Butler Lab School #60

  • Purchased a class set of Sphero Indi robots for young learners, tohelp students understand coding in a more concrete way
  • Purchased Magna-Tiles to teach math and physical science. The materials teach students about forces and patterns, while they sort, create, design aand construct
  • Provided funding for supplies to start the school yeaar, including headphones for the class
  • Purchased an Edison robot to enable students to learn coding

Rousseau McClellan #91

  • Purchased 4 tablets to be retained in the special education classroom so students would always have access to this technology
  • Helped provide work tables for student use in creating STEAM projects

Purdue Polytechnic High School North

  • Provided funds to enable participation in the competitive evGrand Prix, held at Purdue University in West Lafayette. With our sponsorship the team was able to purchase tires, lithium battery, magesium wheels, disk brakes and brake line, left and right spindles, steering column, racing suit, gloves, shoes, rib protector, neck brace, input gear, output gear, and mechanic’s tool set
  • Gave funds to adquire supplies for the maker program, such as hardwood
  • Approved funding to purchase supplies for the school’s robotics team

Shortridge High School

  • Purchased materials or silkscreen printing of students’ artwork
  • For art instruction, provided an iMac All-in-One to enhance digital art, animation, and multi-media projects. This enables student development of 21st century skills, creation of digital portfolios, and exploration of new creative pathways
  • Funded a tool cart to organize art materials, and assist sstudents in creative presentation in a professional manner
  • Purchased an iPad for art classroon to integrate technology with art curriculum and expand creative possibilities
  • Purchased a laptop charger and tablet so every student would have access to this technology
  • Purchased health monitoring equipment so athletes can understand physiology and performance
  • Purchased organizational materials for Algebra II class
  • Purchased graphing calculators to fascilitate complex calculations
  • Provided funding for car for advanced digital media students
  • Purchased Prismacolor Premier Colored pencils for art classes

ADDITIONAL EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE

  • Provided weekly tutoring at James Whitcomb Riley #43

Service to Community

  • As a Go Fourth activity, pulled invasive garlic mustard plants at Broad Ripple Park
  • Provided docents for the Broad Ripple Historic Home Tour
  • Donated coats, hats and gloves for students at Purdue Polytechnic High School
  • Purchased replacement art supplied for summer art camps at Broad Ripple Park, after materials were destroyed in an act of vandalism
  • Collected supplies to help 91 Place, which provides shelter and services to youth, ages 18-24 facing homelessness
  • Cleaned and maintained our adopted median at 70th and College on a weekly basis
  • Continued to co-sponsored the clean-up of Broad Ripple Village on the first Saturday of every month

Fundraisers

  • Hosted the fourth annual Pumpkin Smash for STEAM Cash. Held in partnershp with Half Liter BBQ, this free family event features pumpkin drop from scissor lift, smashing pumpkins on the ground, arts events for kiddos, live music, on-line auction, and Dine-to-Donate generosity of Half Liter restaurant, a Sahm establishment
  • Hosted a beach bingo and tropical triva event, raising funds to provide assistance for needs other than STEAM

Other Donations and Efforts

  • Held bi-weekly lunch meetings at Half Liter BBQ, and monthly Think with a Drink at various location
  • Continued to support Haverford Little League
  • Donated funds to support after-school STEAM programs of AYS
  • Continued support of STEAM-focused summer day camp scholarships at Jordan YMCA
  • Focused on membership growth with outreach in the Broad Ripple area
  • Supported the Kiwanis International Children’s Fund
  • Supported the programs of the Indiana District of Kiwanis International
